ET alors

"ET alors" is a handmade pop-up book that reveals the clandestine sexual lives of the elderly. Inspired by Jun'ichi Watanabe's novel "Paradise Regained," which left a profound impact on me during high school, the book portrays the diverse and vibrant late-life experiences of the elderly through narrating their romantic stories. In East Asia, sexual expression, especially for the elderly, is often suppressed. However, sexual desires are not only a part of human nature but also an instinctive expression. Where there is consciousness, there is desire.

Through research on the sexual needs of the elderly in today's society, I established the theme of creating pop-up book narratives focused on the diverse romantic stories of elderly individuals with different conditions and sexual orientations. The entire handmade book uses the windows of a retirement home as a narrative thread, offering a voyeuristic perspective into the lives of the elderly. My hope is that readers, after exploring this pop-up book, will gain insight into the suppressed sexual needs of the elderly, reflect on potential societal biases, and foster greater understanding and acceptance of the emotional and loving aspects of elderly individuals.
《ET alors》是一本手工立体书，揭示了老年人隐秘的性生活。本书的灵感来源于渡边淳一的小说《复乐园》，这部小说在我高中时期对我产生了深远的影响。本书通过讲述老年人的浪漫故事，展现了他们丰富多彩的晚年生活。在东亚，性表达，尤其是老年人的性表达，往往受到压抑。然而，性欲不仅是人性的一部分，也是一种本能的表达。只要有意识，就有欲望。

通过对当代社会老年人性需求的研究，我确立了创作立体书的主题，聚焦于不同状况和性取向的老年人的多元浪漫故事。整本手工书以养老院的窗户为叙事线索，为读者提供了一种窥视老年人生活的视角。我希望读者在探索这本立体书之后，能够深入了解老年人被压抑的性需求，反思潜在的社会偏见，并促进对老年人情感和爱的方面有更深刻的理解和接纳。
